The Week of Service Miracles and Brownies

Image
Intake picture with Pres. and Sister Cummings Hi everyone!  This  week was great! I mean every week is great, but this week was so great!  On  Monday we did normal P-day stuff.  We cleaned the car and the flat and we went shopping.  On Tuesday  we had FHE with the ward so Sister Brothers and I wanted to make a treat. I made chocolate chip cookies. I made heaps of cookies! Like seriously so many. And we were running late (no surprise there, right haha). So I'd just piled the cookies onto a plate really fast and we got into the car and I spilled them all over the floor of the passenger side and we had just cleaned the car! Like I spilled probably 20 cookies all over the floor! So as we were driving to the chapel I was tossing cookies out of the window haha! It was really funny! Then  on Wednesday  we were contacting former investigators and we went to this one house but the lady said she wasn't interested so we decided to knock on th...

Kia Ora!

Kia ora!  This week was pretty good! I can't believe I've been in Gisborne for almost 3 weeks! I sure do love it here!  This week we had an appointment with Donna, the referral we got from the Elders last week, but she was about to go shopping when we got there, so we have another appointment set for  Wednesday . Hopefully she will be home *fingers crossed*. This week we had exchanges! I went with Sister Kearon and went to the other area (Tahapara area). I met this old couple named Dave and Molly. They aren't members, but Dave went to church college and has many friends that are members. They are very kind and gave us hot chocolate and biscuits (cookies). It wasn't even cold outside (like maybe 60 degrees) and they were freezing! It makes me laugh.  Also, this week we went to the church for a rescue night (where we and members go out and visit less actives) but no one showed up so the YW invited us to go with them. We decorated cakes...

"Today's the Day to Save Souls"

Dear everyone, I hope you are all doing well! This week Sister Brothers and I tried so many times to visit people, but they were never home. It was kind of frustrating, but that's okay! This week will be better I hope! This week we got a referral from the Elders and have a new investigator. Her name is Donna and Sister Brothers and I feel like she is looking for a church. She goes to like 3 in Gisborne (they all have free food haha). I'm really excited to get to know her better.  This week during study time I've really been focusing on reading my Book of Mormon. Before my mission I only read it one time and that was so I could finish Young Womens. But as I've read it now I've noticed how it really does answer questions of the soul. Every day I learn something that will help me during that day. If you haven't been reading the BoM, I challenge you to start reading it.  Thank you all for the support! It's not easy being so far away, but It...

I'm Out in the Field!

Sister Brothers and Sister Grant (they are in a driving area) Hi everyone!  How are you?  I'm sorry I forgot to tell you when I was leaving the MTC. I left  on Wednesday  morning after everyone else had left so my heart was pretty numb at that point from saying goodbyes! I cried so much when I had to say goodbye to my district. It was really hard, and sometimes still is.  All the Wellington missionaries (Elder Smedly, Elder Harrigfeld, Elder Bishoff, Elder Tonumipea, and Sister Ontiveros) left  Tuesday  morning at  6:30 . So I had to say goodbye to them that night and it was so hard. Then Sister Olive and Elder Biranipwepwe left for Sydney  Wednesday  morning at like 4 so that was so hard. And then Elder Holt was supposed to leave at 7 but didnt end up leaving until like  7:30  so I got to say goodbye to him and that was so hard!  On Wednesday  morning I left the MTC and headed to Hamilton. I had to drive on ...

MTC Week #2

Dear Beautiful Sister, What a privilege it is for us to be here with you. Remember to always keep the Temple in your sights even when you can't see it. Love you lots, Sister Howes Hi everyone!  I went proselyting with actually missionaries this week! I went with a sister in the Auckland mission.  Also, I leave on Wednesday and go to Hamilton! I will be picked up by my mission president, I think, and will ride the hour and a half to Hamilton. It’s crazy to think that I only have a few days left here. I don’t want to say goodbye to everyone. I I love my district so much! We took some pics at the temple and I’ll have to send them later because I forgot my camera.  I also forgot everything I wanted to say to you guys. I love you all so much though and I’ve grown so much here! My confidence has gone up so much!  It’s kind of cold, but some days its really warm and I wear t-shirts and shorts to sport. Sorry I only have a few minutes left. I love you a...

This is EVERYONE at the MTC! Everyone is so wonderful! President and Sister Howes are the best! Here is a note sent from Sister Howes to Kathrynn: Dear Wonderful Missionaries How thankful we are to have you here in the NZ MTC as you begin your missionary journey. Each one of you is a miracle and we love you and are proud of who you are becoming. Always remember that you are a Disciple of Christ, that you wear His name on your chest and in your heart and that your ultimate goal is to become more like Him. Please filter all your words and actions through that filter. We love you! Please note that I am sending this to the whole Zone and you now have each other’s email addresses. Sister Howes

Hello! First Week at the MTC

This is me in front of the NZ MTC! Hi everyone!  How are you all? I am so happy and having so much fun! My comp is sister Olive (Oh-lee-vay) She is from Auckland (Literally like 10 min form MTC) and is going to Sydney North. My district is the Mormon District. There is Elder Smeldy (I sent a pic with him because we recognize each other). His comp is Elder Harrigfeld (He's from Idaho Falls). There is also Elder Bishoff, Elder Tonumipea (From Samoa). Then there is Elder Holt and Elder Bironipewpew (from Kiribati). We have a lot of fun! There is only one set of sisters in each district because there are so many more elders . Oh! After lunch everyday we go to sports. Sister Ontivaros and I play soccer with like 4 other sets of elders and it is so muddy because it rains all the time, but it is so much fun! The first day I was COVERED in mud (I forgot to take a pic) But it was so much fun!  The winter here is so nice! It hasn't been too cold except for when we went t...
